Fear and uncertainty can often hold us back from doing what we really want, and ‘unleashing the potential you’ can be made easier through inspiration and asking yourself three key questions.
Finding Inspiration
How many stories to we hear about successful women who have taken that ‘leap of faith’ and found themselves in a successful, thriving business?
Here are three stories to get you inspired.
Fernwood Fitness CEO and founder Diana Williams. ‘Back in 1989, a stay-at-home mum had an idea to open a gym for women to focus on their health and fitness. Fast-forward 30 years and that idea now has 70 clubs and 73,000 members!’
Carolyn Creswell, as an 18 year old was to be made redundant when her employer was selling the business. Carolyn decided to buy the business and balanced her university studies with operating the business we now know as the successful Carmen’s . Carolyn’s story is interesting, scary— given how young she was, and very inspiring.
‘Liz Forkin Bohannon is the founder of Sseko Designs. Sseko is an ethical fashion brand that works to educate and empower women. By providing employment and educational opportunities, Sseko enables women to continue their education and become leaders in their country. In four years, Sseko has grown from three women making sandals together under a mango tree, to an international fashion brand that provides employment, educational opportunities and entrepreneurial training to over 50 women in East Africa.’ (Ref. http://lizbohannon.co/) I had the pleasure of hearing Liz speak about what she calls ‘Beginner’s Pluck’ in 2019.
The three stories of success above, may seem a long way from you, but it probably felt the same way for these women as well. Personally, I am continuing to develop my business—it’s something I work on everyday, but, I’m taking it one day at a time. Every morning I wake up and ask myself ‘What is one step I will take today?’ I am very lucky to be held accountable by my peer life-coaches, and I can really see how having a mentor or coach can help you to work through your ideas. It can be of great benefit.
The scariest part for me was to resign my well-paid position managing a not-for-profit international publishing and distribution business. But here I am, writing blogs for my own business now, and continuing to develop and share tools to help others in my role as business mentor and coach. An early first step was to come up with my business name, (Mia Stile), and register a website domain.
I was n’t sure at the time where my business was going to focus, but at least I had made a start. It has taken time for me to clarify my business goals, and even longer to write content for the website—and the content continues to change as my business evolves, but I have started. All it took was a decision to take my ‘leap of faith’ and then each day, decide and commit to the next step.
To unleash the potential you, my challenge is for you to ask yourself three questions:
- ‘Is what I’m currently doing getting me to where I want to be?’
- ‘What do I need to change or work on?’
- ‘What is the one step I will take today?’
