Do you find times when you just can’t get unstuck? When there seems to be a blockage, but you don’t really know what it is? Or rather, you can name a heap of reasons why, but deep down you know they are all just excuses? Maybe the task is a bit overwhelming, like home schooling when it is really not your ‘thing’, or cleaning out that cupboard when you know deep down that there is nothing you want to get rid of, not yet, and you don’t know what to do with it other than leave it there?
Well that’s me today. I personify procrastination at its very best. So, as a life coach, I ask myself, ‘What do I need to do to become unstuck?’
Maybe my goal is too big for today, and I need to concentrate on a smaller step?
Thinking about a small step, what is one that I will enjoy? And how will I feel when it is completed? Maybe I should do that bit first. So today it’s about rearranging the order of my tasks so that doing the fun thing will get me moving, make me feel I have achieved something and place me in a better frame of mind to tackle the harder, less fun stuff.
So what I am doing today to get myself unstuck?
I’m writing this blog article. You see, I love writing and I have been spending so much time thinking about my website content that it started to overwhelm me, and all I really want to do is start writing blogs. So here it is, my first blog. And my mindset has changed immediately. I’m already thinking about the next blog, and the one after that! And, I am focussed on my business and ready to tackle those web pages again, but with vigour, energy and determination.
As a life coach, we are encouraged by our professional peers to be coached, and to apply the tools and techniques we use with our clients on ourselves as well.
So, what are the life coaching lessons I have applied to myself of today?
- Don’t let the big plan overwhelm you—break it into small achievable bits
- Put the steps in an order that will be motivating for you, and choose one first small step
- Imagine how good it will look and feel to have achieved this first step
- Tag on a bit of the not-so-fun stuff at the end and keep your fun and progressive mindset while achieving it.
- Enjoy the sense of accomplishment and celebrate it.
My wish for you, is that my simple strategy above might help you next time you find yourself ‘stuck’. If you would like a FREE 40 minute consultation to help you get ‘unstuck’ contact me.
